For the seventh consecutive time, Caroline Kennedy again hosts the annual Kennedy Center Honors on CBS Television Network. This event started in 1978, and has continued on to be a legacy. What I like about this year's event is the inclusion of Dave Brubeck in the list of honorees.
This year, the following are the honorees: as mentioned, Dave Brubeck then we have Mel Brooks, Robert De Niro, Bruce Springsteen and Grace Bumbry. Now at it's 32nd year, this event definitely lives up to expectations. The event graced by no other than Pres. Obama who said: "These performers are indeed the best. They are also living reminders of the simple truth: the arts are not somehow apart from our national life, the arts are at the heart of our national life."
Dave Brubeck also said here: "This is over the top, this is the biggest..."
Interesting enough, Pres. Obama in his talk recalled the time when as a child he attended his first jazz concert, in 1971, where Dave Brubeck was the performer. The president said that he knows personally how powerful the performance is, and he continued, "I have been a jazz fan ever since!"
Just What is Kennedy Center Honors?
As per wikipedia: "It is an annual honor given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture. The Honors have been presented annually since 1978 in Washington, D.C., during gala weekend-long events which culminate in a performance for—and honoring—the Honorees at the Kennedy Center Opera House."
As you can see, the list of honorees here include the likes of writers, composers, actors, directors, producers, singers, songwriters, etc.
